North London Derby: Arsenal save top performance for Tottenham

Today, February 26, 2012, was a great day in football history as some of the most remarkable events happened. We will provide full coverage on everything but for now let’s start off with Arsenal’s 5-2 win over rivals and third place Tottenham. Arsenal’sperformance has been questionable this season and if it didn’t change, many believed it would lead to the
departure of the clubs top striker and captain, Robin Van Persie. The Gunners looked like a completely different squad today.

It didn’t start off so bright though, as Spurs took the lead 4 minutes into the match through the strike of Louis Saha. Only 30 minutes after that Gareth Bale helped double that lead as he was taken down in the box and Spurs were awarded the penalty. Adebayor stepped up and netted it from 11 yards out. It was only until the 40th minute that the gunners started to heat up. Bacary Sagna tucked home his first goal of the season followed by an equalizer from Van Persie.

Early in the second half the gunners continued their streak with a goal from Rosicky. Then the goners went up two from a very unlikely man, Theo Walcott in the 65th & 68th minutes. Theo Walcott has been lacking all the skill we’ve once seen from him this season. Poor passing, losing possession after a few good skill moves and poor finishing are all we’ve seen from Walcott. Today he put all that behind himself and set two to the back of the net. Arsenal are now in fourth and Tottenham remain in third. Arsene Wenger might have now regained the support from fans after losing it with poor performances. Video Highlights are included below.
