“Come back when you’ve won 18”; We’re back and about to make it 19

In 1994, Liverpool fans made the famous banner saying “come back when you’ve won 18.” Well in the 2008/2009 season, United conquered that request but came in second the season after (last season), unable to make it 19. The clash between Manchseter United and Chelsea took place today and it was at the point where this game was going to make or break one of the two teams in first and second place. Winning would bring United closer to the 19th EPL title.

Going into this match, United had 73 points and Chelsea had 70, and they shared a goal difference. The match took place at Old Trafford of Manchester, England. United beat Chelsea twice in the Champions league quarter finals but this game meant more. Chelsea don’t have a history in the CL, but they won the EPL last season and wanted to continue to do so this season. It didn’t take much for United to score, just an assist from Ji-Sung Park and 36 seconds of game time. That’s right, Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez scored in under a minute against arguably, United’s toughest match up in the Premier League. Soon after Vidic scored a header which came in from a corner. With time running out, Lampard managed to steal one for Chelsea but it wasn’t enough.

"It’s a massive step forward. Mathematically it’s not done yet but we’re nearly there."
- Ryan Giggs

Sir Alex did admit he was worried about giving up the lead in the closing stages of the game.

"We do it all the time, take it to the wire and give the poor souls in that stand heart-attacks and have them sitting on the edge of their seats, biting their nails - and I was one of them!"
- Sir Alex Ferguson

With a six point lead on second place (Chelsea), and two games left, United are practically already celebrating their 19th title. They have to play Blackburn and Blackpool, and need 1 point from the next two games to be crowned champions. After the EPL is over United have one more game, the Champions League Final against Barcelona. Winning the EPL beforehand with be a great boost in moral for the club. Where are the Liverpool fans now?
