Is David Beckham headed to PSG?

There has been constant news about Englishman David Beckham heading back to Europe to finish his footballing career. Even last year, everyone was certain he was going to England once the new year came around. He did end up going to Tottenham, but just for a training loan. Harry Redknapp wanted to catch him on a 3 month loan, but LA Galaxy’s staff didn’t allow the deal. He played his heart out in the MLS season and finally added the MLS Cup to his list of awards. His contract with LA is now over and he must figure out what he wants from here.

MLS Playoffs 2011: LA v NY First Leg

LA Galaxy took the 1-0 win over New York Red Bulls on Sunday
with an early goal from Mike Magee. The match took place in Red Bull Arena,
therefore LA have the away goal advantage. Both teams had chances, but that was
the low score line we were left with. NY had more shots, but LA were more
accurate with their shots on goal percentage.
Juninho and Rafa Marquez were both shown red cards after Rafa threw the
ball at Donovan which caused Juninho to retaliate. They will have to sit out
the second leg match when Beckham, Donovan and Keane host Henry, Rodgers and
Ream. Here are some highlights;

Beckham: Still #1 in my Book

The classy David Beckham showed off Chicago Fire by providing the assist to Landon Donovan’s header to take the lead early in the second half. Nazarit brought Fire back into the game, also a header. But only minutes after, D. Becks secured the win by scoring from a corner kick. As he sent the ball in, it went through the goalkeeper’s legs, and into the netting. Another phenomenal goal to add to his collection.

Gary Neville: A True Red

Gary Neville’s Testimonial match took place this evening, where Old Trafford welcomed the Class of ’92 with some returning stars including David Beckham, Phil Neville and Nicky Butt. Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes also joined the Reds’ captain. They played Juventus who brought out a familiar Alessandro Del Piero.

MLS 2011

The MLS Kick off game took place last night featuring LA Galaxy and Seattle Sounders, two popular MLS teams. Galaxy gained much of the popularity through the players on the pitch such as David Beckham, Landon Donovan and newly signed Juan Pablo Angel. Seattle on the other hand, being pretty new to major league soccer, has a huge fan base in the home city, but at the same time catches the attention of the new soccer fans with their bright green kits and Xbox shirt sponsor. Either way, this was definitely the fixture to jump start the new season.

Giggs Wins the award for the Greatest United Player

After six weeks of voting and thousands of submissions, United fans have crowned Ryan Giggs the club’s greatest ever player, topping a poll held by the club’s official magazine, Inside United, and ManUtd.com.

Giggs– already the most decorated player with the most appearances in the United's history – took yet another accolade by a healthy margin, confirming the esteem in which he is held by Reds fans young and old.

Second place in the poll went to Eric Cantona, who fractionally edged George Best into third position.

Welsh winger Giggs was typically magnanimous when he found out he’d won. “When I got told I was really chuffed,” he said.

“I couldn’t believe it to be honest, especially when you look at the list of other players who are up there.”

Beckham and Henry To London:

Beckham’s four-week training spell at Tottenham Hotspur began on Monday morning when he arrived at the club’s training ground.

Meanwhile NewYork Red Bulls striker Henry has begun a training stint with his former club Arsenal in order to keep fit during the Major League Soccer off-season.

The pair are two of the biggest names ever to have graced the Premier League having made a combined total of 519 appearences.

Spurs started negotiations with the MLS side [L.A. Galaxy] last week over a two-month deal but the north London club announced that Beckham would only come to train with the club, rather than play.

Galaxy said to be wary of their 35-year-old prize asset becoming injured any loan spell, as Beckham did during his spell at AC Milan last year when he tore his Achilles.

However Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is still keen to see Beckham play in a Spurs shirt and negotiations about a loan deal are ongoing.

While Spurs still hope to arrange a deal to enable Beckham to play for them, Henry’s return to Arsenal is purely a fitness exercise. (PremierLeague.com)

As you’ve read before, Beckham has been in contact with Tottenham for a loan spell. Everything seemed to be going great until L.A. Galaxy stated it would not happen because of insurance. Galaxy are conserved about Becks leaving because of what happened before the World Cup while he was on loan to AC Milan. Instead of completing the transfer right away, he was only set on training with the club for a month, but this didn’t stop Harry Redknapp from trying to work out a deal with L.A. But it now seems that Redknapp has given up hope on signing the former England captain during this transfer window.

"As far as playing goes, it's a no-goer. I'm 99.9 per cent sure it won't be happening.”

There has been talk of Redknapp signing David in November, when his contract with L.A. Galaxy ends and will become free agent. I’m sure there are going to be a handful of clubs that try to sign him, with possibilities such as AC Milan, Arsenal, Leicester City, Galaxy, extending their contract, and of course Tottenham. All decent teams, but let’s be honest, Leicester City should have expected to be turned down by the superstar. When he said he wanted to return to Europe, I’m sure he meant a top league team. In my opinion, I don’t think he will extend his contract with the MLS team because this whole loan spell was to get back on the English National squad, and continuing what he has been doing might not be the best idea. I think signing a contract with Tottenham in November will be the best for Becks because Harry Redknapp is said to be England’s next manager, which would probably allow Becks a spot on the team. It is also said that after his time is served with playing on the team, he will become Redknapp’s assistant manager. Now when you look at past players who have become manager they haven’t had the best outcomes. Not mentioning any names, but Diego Maradona made a joke of himself during the world cup. He was jumping around, having the craziest reactions and made a joke of his legendary status. I this case, I don’t think

Beckham will do the same, mainly because, he was there during the world cup, and was very subtle. He also won’t be the manager, just an assistant manager, so he will still have a very experienced manager next to him. I think this partnership will work well together because there will be an experienced player and an experienced ENGLISH manager. Redknapp did play professionally so he does have player experience, but the game has changed since his day. All in all, I think Becks can fit in a few more years playing, and after his contract ends with whichever team he signs with in November, he can be a great impact as a manager with his national team.

On another note, Thierry Henry has followed Beckham’s footsteps once again. They both left to English Premier League to go to La Liga. Beckham left United for Real Madrid, Henry left Arsenal for Barcelona a few years later. Then they both left La Liga for the MLS, Becks arriving in 2007, and Henry just in 2010. Now Henry has followed Beckham back to London to keep in shape, but Henry is training with his former club, Arsenal. He wants to keep in shape for the MLS season which starts up in March. Henry never considered a loan spell to Arsenal; he strictly wanted to train with them.

David Beckham: Possible Arsenal Transfer

I recently had a post about a possible transfer for the L.A. galaxy Superstar to Tottenham Hotspurs. The transfer seems unlikely, but many transfers are doubted before anything happens, much like when Cristiano Ronaldo said he will stay with Manchester United, or when Beckham himself said he probably won’t go to Italy for a second time. Now there are rumors that Beckham has been in contact with Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, setting up a loan for the iconic player.

“It is a great league and one of the most competitive in the world. Maybe one day I will come back here but I have always said that it will only be for Manchester United. I am not holding my breath on that one, but we will have to wait and see.”

It is possible that he just said that so that Sir Alex really thinks about, but he has, and said he doesn’t think it would be the right move, but as I said, big transfers are normally doubted instantly.

Beckham visited England in 2008 during the mls’ off season and trained with Arsenal to stay fit, and Wenger did admit to enjoying his presence. Arsenal is a fairly young team and could possibly use the legend as a leader for the young gunners. There are a few other teams that have considered getting Beckham for the loan. Leicester tried to sign Becks, but failed, which was expected. Any team would love to have Beckham join, but the problem is he needs to find the right team, mainly because there is a lot of young talent in the game today and Beckham’s age doesn’t work to his advantage even though he is only 35.

Beckham mainly wants to return to a European team, preferably English, to get his spot back on the English National squad, after getting injured right before the World Cup and being rudely excused from the squad by Capello. Either way, I hope to see Becks join a major club in January, because if he doesn’t, his skill is only being wasted.

David Beckham: Back for More?

David Beckham is definitely one of those players who is given a lot of publicity, but with a history like his, it is expected. Lately he has been in the news for being loaned to the Italian Giants AC Milan for the second time. Also, Becks had an injury right around the starting of the World Cup earlier this year. Since he was not able to play, there was a lot of controversy on whether 2006 was his last world cup final stages or not. England coach Fabio Capello rudely told Beckham he was too old. But according to Tottenham manager, he wasn’t. The Hotspur boss: “I don't think David will give up. I would never write him off. I think he will come back.” He also went on to compliment David on what a world class player he is and that he hasn’t lost any skill.

In recent news, Redknapp has linked up with the L.A. Galaxy superstar. He wants Beckham not only for his skill but also because he thinks that Beckham is a huge role model and it would be great for team as well.

"He would still be a terrific player," Redknapp stated. "His delivery of the ball remains exceptional, he is a great trainer and he is a local boy from up the road."He continued to add that the two have met before and he thinks that David is a nice guy, and that probably no club would turn down the opportunity to get Becks on the team.

Seeing that the Galaxy had no problem letting Beckham go to the Serie A, not once but twice, I’m sure they would let him leave once again, because at this point we’ve only heard the word on a loan. If it’s up to the man himself, I don’t think he would turn down the opportunity to play in the EPL again. I mean does anyone remember when AC Milan played Manchester United in the Champions League last year? He practically broke down in tears after the kind of celebration the fans gave him at Old Trafford.




Lastly, if the loan goes through smoothly, how do you think he will perform with the rest of the team? If you ask me, I think it will be an interesting twist to the way Tottenham are currently playing. Becks would play in the same position as Lennon another great right winger, but the crossing ability of DB7 is unmatchable. I’ve noticed when watching Tottenham, they are really all about attacking. They have a top class offense with players like Gareth Bale, Peter Crouch, Rafael Van Der Vaart, and Roman Pavlyuchenko. Add Beckham into the mix and the goals will only add up. The rest of the players will also see him as a role model and have more motivation with a legend like Beckham.

In my opinion, I think Beckham should definitely take this opportunity to play in the Premier League once again, not only for the memories but to prove he is worthy of a spot on the English national squad. I would personally be happy to see Beckham play on the highest level of football, and I am sure many of his fans will too.
