January Transfer Window comes to a close

Another fantastic January transfer window has come to a close with a heaping of players changing the logos on their shirts. Ridiculous spending has given us ridiculous excitement through a multitude of transfer day story lines.

Top team of the transfer window:
 Liverpool

What a week for Liverpool fans. Not only did their club bring on one of the finest goalscorers in England in Andy Carroll but they also made a thrilling addition with Uruguayan international, Luis Suarez, one of the phenoms of this past summer's World Cup. They now have a goalscoring tandem, perhaps better than any in the Premier league. Any team and I mean any team that takes on Liverpool will now have to expect the possibility of three or four goal performances regularly by the Reds.

Worst team of the transfer window:
Arsenal

For a team in the heart of a title race, Arsenal were dangerously stagnant in a window in which the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool gained so much. I would not be surprised to see this come back to bite them and perhaps be the true death of the Gunners in the long-term title race. Serious injuries are likely to happen down the stretch and if they find their way into the Arsenal camp, the long-lived dream of a Premier League title would most definitely die for the Gunners.

Player I'm most excited to watch from here on out:
Luis Suarez

As an admitted Chelsea fan, I'm tempted to put Fernando Torres's name here. But any time a great striker like Suarez comes to the EPL for the first time, I can't help but feel extremely excited at the possibilities. Suarez has scored an astonishing 81 goals in 110 appearances for Ajax over the last four years. He has also netted an additional 16 goals in 38 caps for the brilliantly fun to watch Uruguayan national team, including three in this past summer's world cup. The Premier League is an entirely different level than the Dutch Eridivisie though and it should be very interesting to see how Suarez adapts.

Other Notes:

Give them credit for trying but Tottenham Hotspur had a very rough day at the office in terms of adding top-level players. Attempts to acquire Atletico Madrid studs, Diego Forlan and Sergio Aguero fell through as did efforts to lure Fernando Llorente and Luis Fabiano from La Liga. These failed deals came after disappointment in North London when Andy Carroll signed with Liverpool. On a side note, Spurs did pick up South African Steven Peinaar.

American midfielder Michael Bradley is on his way to Aston Villa for a loan period giving even more reason for Villa to finish in the top half of the table. This is fantastic news here in the States, as yet another American player has joined the greatest league in the world. Bradley joins fellow Americans, Tim Howard, Stuart Holden, Clint Dempsey, and his new teammate Brad Friedel in the EPL among others.

Sunderland also brought on a huge addition that went largely unnoticed throughout the UK. They made a move for Ghanaian Sulley Muntari on loan from Inter Milan. This should provide excellent chemistry with fellow Ghanaian striker Asomoah Gyan.
