Surprises
The biggest outlier in the day's results comes to us from London, where the England national team fell victim to a resurgent Ukraine, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
Player of the day:
On a day with little fanfare in the way of high personal goalscoring, the player that stood out the most was Ukraine's Yevhen Konoplyanka. Just 22, Konoplyanka has spent the entirety of his young career playing for domestic side Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk. On Tuesday, he bent a sizzling 25 yarder past Joe Hart giving Ukraine its initial 1-0 lead. Despite the fact that the Lions came back to grab an equalizer, Konoplyanka proved the young brilliance of a Ukrainian side that is working to return to the World Cup for the first time since 2006.
Team to watch:
Group G is arguably the easiest of UEFA's sections. It's made up of Greece, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Latvia, Slovakia, Lithuania, and Liechtenstein. One would think that the group is probably a toss up between the Greeks and the Slovakians. However, it's been the goal-laden Bosnians who have impressed so far. They won their first two games by a combined score of 12-2, putting them atop the the Group G table. They don't seem keen on stopping any time soon, with stars Eden Dzeko and Vedad Ibisevic at the top of their respective careers. Look for Bosnia to win the group and qualify for their first ever FIFA World Cup.
